Thanks to the kind help of blog readers and the efforts of staff at Food for Life Vrindavan, Laxmi is feeling much better. She is out of hospital and living in Sandipani Muni Children's home. Today, for the first time, she attended Sandipani Muni school.
Because of the tough circumstances she has come from (see blogpost 29th June 2009) it will take Laxmi some time to adjust. For example, the staff member I sent to take this photo of her reported that Laxmi asked for two rupees in return for posing for the photograph.
As well as donations, kind blogviewers have sent Laxmi letters and gifts. We are confident that with this kind of care and affection, Laxmi will continue to heal, both physically and mentally.
The next step in her care is to undergo physiotherapy on both hands. Laxmi's left hand is still recovering from being burnt and her right hand is also damaged, possibly due to her having been restrained by her arm for long periods.
