This is Laxmi. Laxmi is a 15 year old girl who has been in excruciating pain for the last year - both mental and physical pain. This tragic chapter of her life started a year and a half ago when both her parents and her brother were put in jail for the murder of her brother's late wife.
Laxmi went to live with her grandmother but, after an argument, her grandmother threw her in the fire and kicked her out of the house. She suffered severe burns to her arm which have not healed in the last 1.5 years. The wound is now badly infected.
For the last year, Laxmi has been living on the street begging. Many people promised to help her, but none came through with the help.
Last week, Laxmi was brought to the attention of Food for Life Vrindavan staff. FFLV nurse took her to several hospitals who all refused to treat the wound as it was rotten, putrid smelling and filled with maggots. Eventually she got admitted in the Methodist Hospital, Mathura.
Laxmi will need to be in hospital for at least one month. She will need several operations to remove the dead tissue, but luckily the arm can be saved. After being discharged, Laxmi will need physiotherapy and will be housed in Food for Life Vrindavan's children's home.
For Laxmi's treatment we need to raise Rs100,000 or US$2223. We are still in the process of raising $275 for Sefali (blog case 12th June). With your help we can continue to help suffering women and girls like Sefali and Laxmi. Please contact Rupa@fflvrindavan.org with your pledge of support.
