Children in the family, Amit 10, Mahima 8, Sumit 7, Akilesh 6, Jyoti 4

All the children of this extremely poor family study in SMS, they had come to Vrindavan some years ago on a visit from their home in the town of Allahabad, which is reached by 12-hour journey from Vrindavan. During their visit, Akhilesh (the houngest boy in the picture) fell off a building and injured himself. To meet the expense of the treatment and hospitalization his father was able to borrow Rs 80,000 ($2,300) from the local people with the reassurance that he would stay and work in Vrindavan to pay back the debt.
They were provided a small accommodation by one of the people who helped them. Amit’s mother works for their landlord who gives them Rs 300 ($8) off on the rent of Rs 500 ($13) a month for her services.
The father has been paying back Rs 500 a month from his monthly income, which is about Rs 1,000 a month. He sells betel leaves or paan.
The children say they eat only once a day at our school. FFLV has given this family monthly provision twice but they need some long-term assistance.
Monthly cost for their grain and veg. supply is approx. 1,200 rs or US$ 30. If you wish to help them, please contact me asap. rupa@fflvrindavan.org
