Usha is 25 years old and the mother of three childen - 8-year-old twin boys and also a 5-year-old boy. She supports herself and her sons from her meagre income making tulsi bead necklaces. The father, who was a widower when he married Usha and also has other children from his previous marriage, does not support the family financially - in fact he is a burden on them, because on the rare occassions he decides to visit, he demands money.
Years of hard work and malnutrition have weakened Usha, and she has been experiencing different symptoms of ill health including severe breathing and stomach problems. She finally visited a hospital and was diagnosed with anaemia. She also needs blood transfusion and is now looking for a donor matching her blood group - if she fails to find one, she will also be charged for the cost of the blood.
Unable to turn to anybody else, Usha approached us for help. She is very worried about her young sons' future, since they are completely dependent on her for financial and emotional support, and she desperately wants to get better for them. We hope that one of our volunteers working at the school will be able to donate her own blood to facilitate Usha's treatment, but the cost of check-ups, medicine and
hospital stay still needs to be covered. We would be grateful for any contribution towards her treatment.
She needs at least Rs 3000 ($65 USD) every month for medicine, tests, and blood, and her treatment will continue for 6 months, bringing the total cost is around Rs 18000 ($390). We know that with the generous contributions from just a few readers and friends we can easily make her medicine available to her. Let's help this young mother recover.
