Sonu's Leg

Sixteen year old Sonu was sitting on the side of the road when a tractor ran over his leg.  His mother died of typhoid last year.  His father has since remarried and forced Sonu out of the house to earn his own living.  Now Sonu lives with his uncle.


After the accident, Sonu's uncle spent his entire savings of 15,000 rupees from his own pocket for his treatment. Now there is no money left and Sonu still needs urgent care.  The rods in his leg must be removed, and he will need a few months worth of medication.  His remaining treatment is estimated to cost about 5000 rupees (110 USD).
