Laxmi, 10 years old.

Girl with intestinal TB.
Abdominal Ultrasound showing:
1) “ A twist of bowel l loops; preeminent and thickened, leading to “sub acute abdominal obstruction (probably due to “Ascaris Lumbricoides”, a kind of worm)
2) “Mesenteric linfoadenopathy (ganglion inside the abdomen increased in volume and size).
Diagnosis: Sub acute abdominal obstruction and Intestinal Tuberculosis”
The blood tests and X Rays, corroborated the diagnostic.
Such situation is considered to be an “EMERGENCY”. The possibility of sudden need of surgery is about 70 per cent. (if the bowel loops twist completely).
Medicines for Tuberculosis and intestinal worms were prescribed. It is dangerous to give the worms medicines at home, because the toxic effect of the medicine will push the worms to move and sometimes cause a complete obstruction of the bowels or a complete twist of the same.
The Doctor advised to admit the child immediately for about 15 days. We are trying to convince the parents to take her to the hospital at our expenses but they are refusing to let her go.
If we manage to convince the parents besides covering the hospital expenses we will have to pay an assistant as she cannot be in hospital alone and the parents have no interest in doing that.
So far we have spent Rs. 1,000
Hospital expenses Rs. 4,500
Attendant expenses Rs. 1,200
Medicine expenses Rs. 5,500
After hospital time she will need two years of medicine for TB. approx. one thousand RS per month. (Rs. 24,000)
Total: 36,200 rs.
